GGT
GGT (gamma glutamyltransferase)
Serum (clotted blood) or heparinised plasma
Mainly from hepatic sources although pancreas and intestine also may contribute to
increases in plasma concentrations.
The most sensitive hepatic enzyme (i.e. unusual for liver disease cases to have normal
concentrations).
Renal tubular epithelium has high concentrations although, when cells are damaged,
GGT is released into urine rather than plasma and urinary testing can be used as a
sensitive marker of renal tubular damage.
Common to see increases in colon displacements and impaction.
