Adiponectin

Chilled serum (clotted blood)

Adiponectin is a beneficial fat-derived hormone (“Adipokine”) that improves insulin sensitivity and has anti-inflammatory actions. It becomes downregulated in obesity and therefore low concentrations are associated with adverse consequences of obesity such as laminitis and EMS.
Low adiponectin is regarded as a supportive test for EMS, rather than a definitive test.
Although one study suggested that adiponectin may improve (increase) in response to weight loss, this is not the general experience that we have seen.
