About our Stud medicine, AI and Reproductive Services
We have a team of extremely experienced stud vets, several with further qualifications, who provide an array of reproductive veterinary services to local sports horses and thoroughbred stud farms in the area.
During the breeding season, our stud medicine team can provide routine gynaecological and pregnancy examinations, management of fertility problems, AI, embryo transfer and treatment of mares and foals and dealing with obstetric and neonatal emergencies.
During the stud season, one of our dedicated stud vets is always on-call, should they be needed and rapid referral to our hospital can be achieved for emergency surgical or medical treatment by our specialists, including caesarean section and intensive care of foals.
Reproductive services at our hospital
Our reproduction unit has been designed as a quiet area, separated from the rest of the hospital, for mares with foals at foot that are coming in for artificial insemination (AI).
By separating the unit from the main hospital, the risk of infection to mares and their foals is minimised and there is less disturbance and therefore less stress for the mares.
There are two large foaling boxes, which provide plenty of room for mares with foals at foot as well as individual post and rail fenced turnout paddocks.
There is a designated reproduction examination room with stocks beside the stables, so that mares can be examined regularly in a safe environment without having the stress of being led in and out of the hospital.
